[blue_heading]Taco Bread $1.26 per serving[/blue_heading]
Once in awhile I crave strange edibles for which no restaurant can deliver. This recipe is one of those that I saw online months ago and it just festered in my brain for all that time thinking how I could go about this in a simple straight forward and precise manner…then I said to hell with it!
I just wanted to make the damn thing and be done with it lol. I have never made Spanish rice before which is surprising because I love the stuff and it’s really really simple with just plain white rice and a jar of pace pacante sauce. I’ll be honest this is the lazy mans Spanish rice; ya know sometimes that’s what works best!
There are only three dishes you need to make taco flavored ground meat(beef, poultry, pork), rice and re-fried beans. The beans can be made from scratch from squished pinto beans but who has that sort of time to let them soak overnight in the fridge + cooking time? No F’ing Way!! Just buy a can of re-fried beans at the store and call it good, trust me on this you will be happy with this.
So make this all at one time or make rice one night meat the other and beans the next but just try this at least once before you brush it off as a gimmick it’s really perfect for parties as a hand food or even a sort of dip for tortillas!
- 1 lbs Ground Turkey $5.29
- 1 Cup White Rice $0.42
- 2 Cans Re-fried Beans $1.36
- 1 Cup Salsa $0.54
- 1 tbls Taco Seasoning $0.14
- 2 Pkgs Croissant Rolls $4.12
- 3/4 Cup Cheddar Cheese(shredded) $0.64
- 1 tbsp olive oil $0.07
- Brown your meat before adding your taco seasoning. Get your rice cooking as it will take 20 minutes to cook. Remember 2 cups water for one cup of rice.(see my yellow rice tutorial) *Taco seasoning is made up of cumin, garlic powder, chili powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
- After your rice has cooked and you let it sit off the heat for 5 minutes or so add your salsa and stir. *You can heat up your can of re-fried beans or just slather it on but a little heat does make it easier to spread just fyi.
- On a sprayed cookie sheet lay out your dough and add a little of that taco seasoning like so...
- Add your layer of ground meat and then your rice keeping it as level as you can.
- Spread your beans on top of the rice carefully then top it off with some cheese.
- Lay the other half of your dough on top of the fillings and lightly stretch and pinch the sides together to form a cocoon of deliciousness!!
- After baking at 375 degrees for 15 minutes this is where your glories lie!
